Rollator with Pneumatic Tyres – Air that Makes Every Step Easier

When you use a rollator outdoors, the ground is rarely perfectly flat. Garden paths, forest trails, cobblestone streets and sloping terrain all put demands on your rollator's wheels. Trionic Walker meets those demands with pneumatic, air-filled tyres – the same principle used in bicycle and pram wheels – delivering a noticeably softer and more comfortable ride on uneven surfaces.

Why Conventional Rollators Use Hard Solid Tyres

Most rollators on the market are fitted with solid rubber tyres. This is not a random design choice – it is a technical necessity driven by the braking system. Conventional rollators use friction brakes that press directly against the tyre surface. If the tyre were soft and air-filled, the brake pads would not make reliable contact, and the braking system would fail.

Trionic solved this problem by rethinking the entyre brake design. The Trionic Walker uses hub brakes: the braking mechanism is housed inside the wheel hub and acts on the axle, not on the tyre surface. This means pneumatic tyres can be used without any compromise to braking performance or safety.

How Air Tyres Cushion Every Bump

The physics are simple. When a pneumatically inflated tyre rolls over a stone, a root or an uneven patch of ground, the air inside the tyre compresses momentarily and absorbs the energy of the impact. Very little of that energy is transmitted up through the frame and into the handlebars. For users with sensitive joints, reduced hand strength or balance challenges, this difference is felt immediately and consistently throughout every walk.

Solid tyres, by contrast, transfer the full shock of every bump directly to the frame and to the user's hands and arms. On a long walk over mixed terrain, this adds up to considerable fatigue and discomfort.

Walker 12er and 14er – Two Tyre Sizes to Choose From

Trionic offers pneumatic tyres in two wheel sizes:

  • Walker 12er – 31 cm (12 inch) tyres. Agile and manoeuvrable, equally suited to indoor and outdoor use.
  • Walker 14er – 36 cm (14 inch) tyres. A larger contact patch and greater ground clearance make it the ideal choice for forest paths, slopes and rougher terrain.

Users can choose the tyre size that best matches their lifestyle and the surfaces they most frequently travel on. Tyre pressure is easy to adjust with a standard bicycle pump.

Ideal for Gardens, Forest Paths, Slopes and Cobblestones

With pneumatic tyres, the Trionic Walker rolls smoothly and confidently over surfaces that would stop or severely slow a conventional rollator. On a garden lawn or gravel path, the tyres grip and roll without sinking. On forest trails, roots and small rocks are absorbed quietly. On slopes and hillsides, the large-diameter wheels provide greater traction and control. On cobblestone streets in historic town centres, vibration is dramatically reduced.

The result is greater freedom of movement. You are no longer limited to flat, smooth asphalt paths. You can go where you want to go, knowing that your rollator will handle the ground beneath it.

Simple Maintenance

Pneumatic tyres require minimal care. Check and adjust the air pressure regularly – much like a bicycle tyre – and pump up as needed. The tyres are built for long-term durability, and replacement tyres and inner tubes are available as accessories.

A Tyre for Every Terrain

You can match the tyre to the ground you walk on most. Trionic offers air-filled tyres from Trionic, Schwalbe and Innova, so the Walker can be fitted with the right tyre for everyday paths or rougher off-road use. Leisure activities such as golf and hunting are covered too, with the Veloped Golf and Veloped Jakt.
